To confirm, and add to, the post on the National Preservation forum:

R&R 45-ton crane ADRR95210 (1561S) was transported by Goodman's from Southall to the Swanage Railway over the night of 30th November, arriving at Norden in the morning of 1st December. Special permission was given to negotiate the major roadworks on the Wimborne by-pass so as to avoid the wide load diversion route which would have taken in some very unsuitable roads.

Roger is extending an invitation to the crane's new caretaker to join the BDCA. We will of course do what we can to support its return to full working order and we look forward to posting condition reports in due course.

I had the good fortune to be invited over to Swanage yesterday to see DS1561 in its new home, and I am pleased to say that it is looking good; far cry from the sorry sight it presented last time I clambered over it at Swindon at the start of this century.

I was also encouraged by the fact that it seemed to be the focus of a lot of interest from the staff at Swanage, and there seemed to be no shortage of people eager to work on it. Most encouraging!

The eagle-eyed reader may notice that the LH jib pin has been replaced with a temporary pin, the original having been damaged during removal in preparation for loading for movement to Swanage. Also, notice the absence of ropes - new ropes from Bridon have been obtained and will be fitted shortly.

It is hoped that the crane will be in a condition in which it can be steamed and undergo a lifting gear exam within a couple of weeks or so.

Nice to see a Southern crane back on Southern metals!

Pleased to report that the hook was fitted with the new rope earlier this week during a test steaming. The jib has been raised and lowered, slewed & the hook has carried out its first lift, to properly stow its spreader beam in the match wagon. All under its own steam. Further work, tests & exams yet to go but well on its way now.

The first of many lifts, good luck through the tests and exams, am looking forward to reading of and viewing 1561 and the team's steam crane activities on the Swanage Railway.
