Quite a significiant derailment, with regards to how the locomotive is to be recovered (66 734 from GBRf 126 tonnes). Quite a challenge....

Will this mean another outing for the crane that has been clocking up the mileage over the last few months going to East Sussex then Aberdeen? Well nearly all the way anyway.

Bescott crane and coaches. Presumably to assist in the removal of wagons first.

Just been informed that the Bescot crane on the way to the incident on the West Highland line.
The Bescot breakdown train is on its way to the scene tonight (Sun). Three pics here, they are NOT mine:

Thanks, Richard & co. Andrew Naylor's pictures are excellent and he has provided some for our Gallery, to be uploaded shortly.

Please note: The first three posts above have been moved/merged into this thread as we had two topics running on the same derailment, one in 'Miscellaneous' and the other in 'News'.

Thats a nice bit of kit in Robs Utude clip, alas though, would be very out of gauge though.

Mind, if Ainscough or one of the other big crane operators, had some cranes to meet the UK gauge, and Network Rail paid for the rail parts, then that could be a way forward for the future.

The crane comapanies could use the cranes as normal, but be available for Network Rail use in emergencies.

There could be locally kept rail skates across Britain, so reducing the need to keep expensive movements down.
