It appears that a lot of items are possibly being scrapped at Carnforth, is this true and is this to include ADRR 95212, as I have received and Email saying it is possible. at this time it is only an unconfirmed report.

Mick, this is disturbing news! Both of the cranes at Carnforth are of sufficient interest to be worthy of preseervation, and in some ways the sole surviving diesel-mechanical crane, the 30-ton ADRC96100, is of even more historic significance than ADRR95212, since it was the first internal-combustion-powered BDC in the UK and is now the sole surviving DM, as opposed to DH, crane.

How reliable is your source, and is there any way we can check if the cranes are under threat? I am not sure what we can do if they are, mind you!

By the way, the link on your post unfortunately doesn't work for me - I get a message saying "This photo is private. Oops! You don't have permission to view this photo."

I am led to believe that West Coast at Carnforth do want to dispose of the 45 T steam crane, but would like it to go complete. They are open to offers.

Pete, do you know anything about ADRC96100?

In many ways it is actually more worth saving than the 45, since there are several other 45s preserved.

Are these cranes still in one piece at Carnforth??

Do we know if the cranes' futures are still in the balance ? I would be willing to save one!
But don't tell the wife.

I, too, would like to know the situation. And Roy certainly deserves to know, given his offer to possibly save one of the pair as an addition to his existing collection of railway cranes.

Perhaps there was good reason for this matter going quiet. An update could be posted in the Members Only section if it's not for public broadcast.

I haven't heard any more about the two Carnforth cranes for quite a while now, but I am reasonably confident we would have heard if they'd been scrapped. Hopefully they're still waiting for better times.

The ex-GW 45-tonner is clearly visible on Google Earth, though the unique 30-tonner is less so.

I suppose one could ring West Coast Railways and ask about them, though I'd better not since I'd probably end up buying them!

Do not place any store in Google Earth for dating purposes.
My work van is still parked outside my house.
I retired in 2009
