Cranemakers of Bath Author: Ken Andrews, Stuart BurroughsPublisher: The History Press Ltd Few comments p.28 top - the machine for Table Bay, Capetown. p.78 top. S&P Goliath nicknamed 'Wellington' at Shoebury’; latterly re-erected at Foulness where it was used in conjunction with H-S. Harrier / R-R Pegasus testing. Only scrapped in 2003 – the man who wanted to obtain the plate baulked when he was told how much it weighed. p.81 bottom - for the Federated Malay States Railway, it survived WW2 . p.88 top – picture was actually taken from a 1912 Glasgow Electric Crane and Hoist Co. hammerhead cantilever crane relocated from its' original Sunderland shipyard location. p.108 - A 'Britannia’ in the background, not 'Evening Star'. p.120 – Actually is Howrah Bridge, at that time in Calcutta, whatever the place is called now. p.126. The list of 'Hercules' in the S&P catalogue does not include an order number of D2921 ( which would have much been nearer 1880 than 1910 in any case ) so I assume this is a Crown Agents order reference. |

Cranemakers of Bath Author: Ken Andrews, Stuart Burroughs Publisher: The History Press Ltd Non breakdown crane comments - p.43 upper – the last such crane built by S&P. ( Indeed probably by any firm to that classic pattern ) p.78 bottom - at South Pier, Peterhead. The reference to largest is arguable ( The Leixoes machines were earlier and had similar capacities at similar radii ) There were two number Goliaths in the blockyard. p.88 lower - original design was by Clark Chapman, Gateshead. p.90 lower - some work was subcontracted to GWR Works, Swindon. p.111 lower – note the suspension bridge across the Avon |
