This crane is all hand operated not steam at all. I worked on a similar crane at the Bluebell railway. link to photos: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/blueb ... crane.html It was a 1943 SR 12ton crane (1748S) the only differences was it had a lattice jib instead of the solid timber one and wire rope instead of chain as in your photo. I do not know if they are from the same manufacture or not, it would be interesting to find out. |

It looks either Cowans Sheldon or Thomas Smith to me . The NER had a small batch of CSs in 1876 ....one of which was the following ............ 4290 NER S 3T 4W CS 891/76 MP Starbeck Is there any plate on the solebar?; if so the fancy CS style plate or a rectangular one? Can anything be gleaned from plate on the ballast box? Note the dumb buffers - they didnt expect to take it far down the line? |
