Good Morning,
I am wondering if any of our learned member would be able to assist me with some information and possibly some photographs.
I am trying to track down as much info on 95213 at Laira during the period 1985/6 when it was painted full yellow. I have a few obscure and out of focus shots of it but would really appreciate if anyone had or had seen a good quality side image to show what markings were carried (either or both sides would be nice)
There was a lot of activity around Laira in 1985, with an open day and GWR 150, although the crane seems to be a little camera shy!
Regards
Steve Purves

I can't remember viewing it at the open day (possibly moved over to Tavistock Jcn yard so still able to respond?)
but a black and white pic on 25th April 1988 shows the crane and vans being hauled by class 50 045 Exeter to Laira after attending to troublesome trucks in Riverside Yard -page 148 lower of the "life and times series- class 50 by Colin J Marsden/opc but I think the crane in question may be seen with the single cement wagon, 6 images (inc top steam one) down on this excellent site ?

The crane on the excellent Taunton Trains site isn't actually the same one, since close inspection reveals it to be a Cowans Sheldon crane not a Ransomes (look at the derricking sheaves). Not sure which crane it is though, that requires more research.

I can't comment on the Class 50 book since I don't have a copy but I'll look out for one.

I have now managed to catch up with a copy of the Class 50 book and can confirm that the above-mentioned photo shows a Cowans Sheldon 75 ton diesel crane, but i am presently unable to identify which one.

The search continues...

ADRC 96718 was at Laira from early 1988 to 1995
with the crane in question ADRR 95213 late 1984 - Late 1986(sold on Dec 87) so a period in between to cover - my initial examples/postings being 2 years+ out of the timeframe!
