Can anybody provide any more detail on this photo?
I believe it may be taken at Gorton and is 951515.
Any possible date range of the photo?
I understand that this crane was requisitioned by MOS and was sent out to Tehran.
Does it still exist?

We think the driver on the footplate may be the uncle of one of our members who has since passed away. The photo comes from his collection.

What an excellent photo!

I think that you are right in your identification. It is certainly a crane from that batch, and it is definitely lettered on the jib runner "GORTON". There were, as far as I know, no CS cranes other than 951515 allocated to Gorton, so this fact alone makes me think that you are correct.

One of the conscripted pair still exists but no-one seems to know for sure which it is. There is a thread on here one the subject (see viewtopic.php?f=9&t=263 ) and there is a photo of the crane standaing at Tehran in 2010 here:

Another outstanding photo! Are there more?

The crane must have been brand new when pictured, given the short time it spent with the LNER and the fact that the bunker/tank hadn't been signwritten yet.

951515 became WD 210 based at Tehran. The other was based at Ahwaz.

There are two IWM photos that can be shared on an private basis. Contact me if interested.
Robin Patrick has photos his father took when based in Persia. ditto.

Transferred to WD16/01/1942.
MoS contracted the LNER to convert these two cranes with air brake, oil firing and to dismantle and pack for shipping. This was recorded as completed by 28/2/42.

The crane presently at Tehran museum site is numbered 102 - but not known which it is.

There is mention elsewhere on this site - search the site.
