Following the take-over of Ransomes and Rapier by Newton Chambers Engineering Ltd., Sheffield, in 1957, no further steam powered, rail cranes were produced.
Design work on the tender for the BR 75T units ceased.
I assume BR did not get tender replies from any other firm except Cowans Sheldon.

According to an article by the late Alan Earnshaw in Steam World magazine No. 69 (March 1993), tenders were also received from Joseph Booth, Coles and indeed Ransomes & Rapier. The tenders covered the following constructions of crane:

Joseph Booth
Steam crane with hinged outriggers

Cowans Sheldon
Steam crane with sliding outriggers
Steam crane with hinged outriggers
Diesel crane with sliding outriggers
Diesel crane with hinged outriggers

Ransomes & Rapier
Steam crane with sliding outriggers

Coles
Diesel crane with hinged outriggers

The magazine article also quotes the unit cost from an analysis of each tender, for a single crane and for twelve cranes in each case. Cowans Sheldon was about 10% higher than Booth, the latter offering the most competitive quote of all. Coles quoted the highest but Ransomes & Rapier wasn't far behind.
