Hi, I was in Johannesburg last week, and visited the huge works of Transnet (formally Spoornet)in Koderspoort, on my way in I saw a very nice Cowans steam crane, I would say about a 45 tonner, but due to restrictions, I couldn't get a picture of it. It did look in good condition, albeit out of use, there were also some other cranes about but I couldn't get close enough to see what manufacture they were. It is a sizeable work shop, more a main works, and good to see that the traversers on site are all still carrying their "Cowans Sheldon Built Carlilse" cast plates, and nicely painted. Cheers Simon |

Hi Simon As you were unable to take a photo of a Cowans Sheldon Crane in Johannesburg. I took this photograph of Cowans Sheldon 580 at Hartenbos, South Africa 22 March 2000. Attachment: And if all our readers go to this web site they will see more cranes in Africa: http://www.internationalsteam.co.uk/cra ... .htm#South Africa Regards Mick |
