Hello all.

I am the archive office & deputy mechanical branch manager of the Richmond Vale Railway Museum in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia. This group has ex New South Wales Government Railways Craven Bros. 70T breakdown crane 1073 in its collection along with 2 Industrial Works built construction steam cranes ex BHP Newcastle Steelworks.

I have special interest in the Craven crane 1073 & have been trying to track down some technical information on this crane (drawings, specifications, works photos etc). We do hold an extremely poor quality microfilm print (near illegible) of the general arrangement of this crane (& its twin 1072) Craven Bros drg No. 30022 "70 Ton Steam Breakdown Crane - Order No.12030 2 cranes". Unfortunately due to the breakup & corporatisation/ privatisation of the New South Wales Railways, access to any records that may have survived in N.S.W. is next to impossible. I was hoping that someone here could assist me if any records etc are possilbly available in the UK, either with Herbert Morris or an archive that the Craven Bros records may have been placed in.

Found these rather nice closeups of 1073 whilst carrying out some lifting work during building extensions at Clyde Engineering in 1941 on the Powerhouse Museum's website.
