96200 at Clapham Junction 'A' Box - 1

Photographer Mike tells the story:

The aftermath of the 'A' Box collapse in May 1965 sees Cowans Sheldon heavy duty diesel crane ADRC96200 taking the strain as it supports the end of the structure. I'd always thought/assumed that this magnificent beast was based at Nine Elms until I received the following text from a Mr. R. Jones:
"The breakdown crane was not from Nine Elms but from (73C) Hither Green. How I know is that I was the fireman on the duty that brought it back to 73C when the box was repaired. The crane did later go to Eastleigh depot and 73C received a steam crane later on."

The slide was taken from the window of an Up Victoria train running at little more than walking pace as was the case with all trains that passed through CJ whilst 'A' Box was in its debilitated state.
