At Holbeck, 331159 was known unofficially as "Gladys", named after the wife of driver Arthur Butler and the mother of supervisor Barry Redfearn.
Barry was Breakdown Supervisor at Leeds Holbeck from 1969 to 1978 before being transferred to Neville Hill to work on the 125s. He hadn't seen "Gladys" since 1978 and was surprised to learn from the BDCA website that she was still alive and active 37 years later, at the NVR.
Barry arranged to visit the NVR with his daughter and grand-daughter on 30th September 2015, and the crane team were delighted to welcome him. Showing an impressive speed of recall, he answered a number of technical and operational questions raised by the NVR crane crew and by a representative of the BDCA whom the NVR had invited to attend.
Barry also lavished praise on Peter Woad who was Holbeck's regular crane driver in the 1970s, and on Peter's brother Les who was occasional driver and stand-in supervisor "and an expert in setting valve gear".
