DE330107 in Derby Works, 1973

This photo, from ex Healey Mills breakdown foreman Les Woad, shows '107 in Derby works on its last overhaul in 1973. Les has provided the following very interesting information:

In this photo can be seen two extra water tanks on the jib carrier. Another water tank would be on a low-loader wagon behind the crane. The wagon also carried the spreader beam, extra coal and wood packing.

The jib ropes are tight for a reason. On completion of the overhaul, Derby could not get the balance of the crane right unless the jib was lifted a bit. A white line was painted on the jib trolley to show where the bottom edge of the jib had to be for travel. Near Wakefield there was a bridge with a dip in it, and every time the crane passed over it the jib would bang on the jib carrier.
