95206 - Bogie Coupling

Unfortunately not much can be seen of the detail of the actual coupling.

As the handwheel on a bogie at each end of the crane is turned, some of the crane's weight is transferred to the bogies in preparation for travel.

With the bogies fully loaded, the eight axles of the crane and bogies each carry less than 13 tons. Without the bogies, the crane's axles would carry in the order of 20 tons apiece, which loading would restrict its route availability as well as increasing the chance of suffering a hotbox on the way to the worksite.
