Settle Junction on 2.5.1979 (1)

Healey Mills breakdown foreman Les Woad reports that 40+ wagons became derailed when heading northwards. On investigation it was found a wagon had broken a wheel, and the junction did the rest.

Healey Mills were called just after lunch on the Wednesday and came home on the Friday afternoon. They stood 9 hours in steam whilst the Army unloaded some ammunition wagons before they could get on with the job. The Fire Brigade also came out, to replenish the water tanks.

Carlisle were also there, having come in from the north. They had the messy bit, starting with 24 china clay wagons. The weather rained (not good for china clay!), hailed, sunshined, and froze.
